Delray Beach will celebrate Independence Day on Sunday, July 4, 2010, with free concerts at the City's entertainment stage, fun-filled activities and spectacular fireworks.

Festivities will begin at 8:00 am and include a Sand Sculpting Exhibition on Delray's Municipal Beach, the American Flag Raising Ceremony, Beautiful Baby Bathing Suit Contest, Patriotic Bicycle & Scooter Parade and the Hamburger & Chili Cheese Hotdog Eating Contests. At 9:00 pm, the Grucci fireworks grand finale will pay tribute to our country's birthday.

Celebration schedule for July 4th includes:

* 8 am - 12 noon: Sand Sculpting Exhibition, A1A and Atlantic Ave, presented by Delray Beach Rotary Sunrise. Vote for your favorite for just $1 per vote! Winners announced at 1 pm.
* 10 am: flag raising ceremony for 30' x 60' American flag near the beach.
* 3:15 pm: Hot Dog Eating Contest sponsored by Xtreme Eatery.
* 3:45 pm: 3-Pound Burger Eating Contest sponsored by Xtreme Eatery.
* 4 pm: Registration and decoration time for entries in the Patriotic Bike & Scooter Parade presented by City of Delray Beach to benefit Youth Council. Gather at Veterans Park (Atlantic Ave and the Intracoastal Waterway). Prizes include a new bicycle, helmets, gift cards and more!
* 4:45 pm: Patriotic Bike & Scooter Parade begins at Veterans Park and continues on Atlantic Ave to the Marriott Hotel on the beach.
* 5 pm: Beautiful Baby Bathing Suit Contest begins on the entertainment stage at A1A and Atlantic Ave.
* 5:30 - 8 pm: Free concert at the entertainment stage at A1A and Atlantic.
* 4-9 pm: Delicious food and beverages provided by local restaurants at Atlantic Avenue and A1A
* 8:30 pm: First fireworks salute signaling that the show will begin in 30 minutes.
* 8:45 pm: Red, white & blue star shell will be launched to announce that the show will begin in 15 minutes. Time to set your radio to Sunny 104.3 FM for the fireworks music simulcast.
* 8:50 pm: Fireworks celebration introduction and Pledge of Allegiance led by Delray Beach Mayor Woodie McDuffie
* 9 pm: Spectacular Grucci Fireworks Celebration begins!

The City of Delray Beach wants you to have a safe and happy holiday and is asking everyone to be a good neighbor and remember:

* The use of exploding fireworks is illegal, dangerous and a nuisance to your neighbors.
* Loud music at parties may be fun for you but not necessarily for your neighbors.
* Fireworks and noise ordinances will be enforced.
* It is everyone's responsibility to safeguard our marine life, especially endangered species and critical habitats.
* Remember to recycle! Place plastic bottles, aluminum cans, etc in our new recycle bins located throughout the event area.

STREET CLOSURES AND TRAFFIC ADVISORY - On Sunday, July 4th, from noon to approximately midnight, the following street closures will take effect: All southbound traffic on A1A (Ocean Boulevard) will be detoured via Thomas Street back to NE 8th Street (George Bush Blvd). All northbound traffic on A1A will be detoured via Miramar Drive back to southbound A1A to Linton Blvd. Also, East Atlantic Avenue will be closed from the east side of NE/SE 7th Avenue to A1A. Boat traffic will not be allowed to pass through Atlantic Avenue, George Bush Blvd and Linton Blvd bridges from 9:00 pm until 11:00 pm.

PARKING - Handicapped parking will be available at the north and south ends of the A1A closures near Thomas Street and Miramar Drive on a first come, first served basis. Handicap vehicles must have placards and registration when approaching checkpoints. The public is urged to park in Downtown Delray Beach and take the short walk to the beach.

The following garages will be open for public parking: Robert Federspiel Parking Garage (22 SE 1st Avenue) and the Old School Square Parking Garage (95 NE 1st Avenue) which may be accessed by traveling eastbound or westbound on NE 1st Street or southbound on NE 1st Avenue. A flat fee of $5 per vehicle will be charged at both garages from 12:00 pm (noon) until 10:00 pm.

DOWNTOWN ROUNDABOUT SHUTTLE BUS MODIFIED ROUTE - On July 4th, the Downtown Roundabout free shuttle bus will run on a modified route with service continuing until 11:00 pm. Due to the closing of East Atlantic Avenue just west of the Intracoastal bridge, shuttle buses will travel on East/West Atlantic Avenue from the Tri Rail station and the Delray Beach Public Library to Federal Highway (NE/SE 6th Avenue) and make return trips from this point.

CITY OF BOCA RATON'S INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION


BOCA RATON, FL---Put on your best red, white, and blue for a "FABULOUS FOURTH" and be the guests of the City of Boca Raton as it salutes Independence Day with stirring patriotic music, spectacular fireworks, and tasty food all to make your July Fourth the most festive of national holidays. The event will take place at the Florida Atlantic University campus, a half-mile east of the Glades Road I-95 exit, beginning at 6:00pm on Sunday, July 4, 2010. Sponsored by the City of Boca Raton, Florida Atlantic University, Greater Boca Raton Beach and Park District, Sun-Sentinel, Boca Raton Tribune, WRMF 97.9 FM, Florida Health and Chiropractic Medicine, and Aurora Nurses Home Health Care, the outdoor event will get underway at 6:00pm with various family activities and games. The sounds of music begin with a stirring patriotic 6:30pm stage show, "Red, White & Blue," presented by ZMC Entertainment, followed by a Zumba work-out demonstration with mass audience participation. At 7:30pm, the FLORIDA WIND SYMPHONY under the direction of Dr. Kyle Prescott, will present a patriotic, hand-clapping musical tribute. The concert program will include vocal selections from two popular musicals currently being presented by the College of Arts and Letters at the University Theater…(call 800-564-9539 regarding theater tickets & pricing.) At 9:00pm, a spectacular fireworks display will take place filling the skies with brilliant streams of color and lights. Traditional patriotic music will accompany the fireworks.

While waiting for the pyrotechnics to begin, enjoy the entertainment of ZMC Entertainment who will present an on-stage Las Vegas-style production of "Red, White and Blue,"---whose motivating music, dance, and action-paced patriotic activities will enrapture the entire family. Other activities include special radio promotions and giveaways, clowns providing animal-sculptured balloons and facepainting, sand art, gift drawings, and a variety of family games and children's take-home crafts. In addition, the Children's Museum and Glass Productions will provide special music and family-type activities.
No need to bring along the picnic basket, there will be plenty of food available for purchase. Several food vendors on site will provide a great variety of picnic-type foods for your eating pleasures, including sausages, hotdogs, hamburgers, pizza, chicken wings, kabobs, icies, popcorn, and much, much more. (Open grills and alcoholic beverages are not allowed at the event, nor anywhere on the FAU campus.)
Everyone is encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy the day's festivities. Plenty of parking is available throughout the campus. Stage entertainment and various family activities will take place in Parking Lot #1 located at the east area of the Florida Atlantic University campus. Handicapped parking and those with special needs are asked to use the 20th Street entrance to the campus and proceed to Parking Lot #1. Actual "ground zero" firing of the fireworks show will be taking place in the new parking lot on Indian River Road, just south of the stage area.
Entrance to the event, event parking, and all performances are free of charge, although there may be optional purchases for food, various crafts, and to support fundraising efforts of local not-for-profit groups. In addition, this year attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a community project----Aurora Nurses Home Health Care will be conducting "Operation Food Bank." Bring along canned or non-perishable food items and drop off at the Aurora Nurses tent location, with all donations being delivered to local non-profit food distribution centers.
For the concern and safety of all, PERSONAL FIREWORKS & SPARKLERS, ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES, OPEN FIRES, AND BRINGING ALONG THE FAMILY PET ARE ABSOLUTELY PROHIBITED.
